The Spa History

A spring (named „Stinker“ – for its characteristic sulphurous smell) was discovered in the swampy meadows near the village of Nová Ves located near Konstantinovy Lázně. It was not earlier than at the end of the 18th century when the Prince Konstantin Dominik Löwenstein – owner of the estate of Bezdružice – gazed on the sulphurous spring searching for gold, silver or coall. Experts summoned by the Prince confirmed the medical strength of the „Stinker“. The Prince immediately started negotiations with peasants of Nová Ves leading to purchasing the land.
The peasants of Nová Ves then let a new building to be built, later called Staré Lázně (Old Spa). Soon after putting the baths into operations, the peasants found out that profit gained from it did not correspond with their ideas and soon they were not able to make repayments of their debts, incurred by building the health resort. In order to avoid confiscation of their own property, they offered the baths to the Prince Karl Löwenstein, the then owner of the estate. Already four other springs are mentioned to this date. Their water is comparable with some wells of Mariánské Lázně, one of them being the Spring of Prusík.

Mineral water is pumped from a 40 m deep spring executed in seventies in the place of springs. The Prusík’s spring contains water of all five former springs, having one primacy – it shows the highest content of free carbon dioxide in the Czech Republic.
Today, the Konstantinovy Lázně health resort is concentrated on complete diagnosis, rehabilitation of conditions after coronary thrombosis, operations of cardio-vascular system, treatment and prevention of cardio-vascular diseases.
